Statement from Fan-Elected Director Dave Beesley

— 3 minute read

Hello fellow Robins Fans,

I wanted to take this opportunity to communicate with you all in my role as Fan Elected Director, and speak as openly as I can about the events of recent weeks.

First of all, I would like to place on record my thanks and best wishes to Wade Elliott.

Wade was one of the missing pieces that helped pick the team up from play-off heartbreak to become League Two Champions and achieve safety in League One on two occasions.

He leaves the club with my thanks, and I am sure those of the vast majority of Cheltenham Town supporters.

The most important part of my role as a director of Cheltenham Town is representing both Robins Trust members and the club’s wider fanbase, and I believe that it’s important to communicate candidly with our supporters wherever possible.

In a perfect world, I would love to be able to share details of every message, zoom call, e-mail, and face-to-face meeting which occurs as part of my role as FED. However, unfortunately that is just not possible. I am bound by the rules of being a director of the Club and not every decision can be played out in public.

I am one of seven full directors on the Cheltenham Town board. We each have an equal role and, as a board, we are in near constant contact.

I can assure you that, throughout the difficult start to this season, we have been watching, listening and talking. I am incredibly keen to be able to represent the fan base, and especially the Trust’s members to the best of my ability.

In doing that I am taking into account those who offer their thoughts gladly and publicly, as well as canvassing and representing those who don’t.

All of those views have to be measured against my responsibilities as a company director and the ongoing operation of our Club as a business, along with any opportunities or impacts any decision may have, along with the timing of any decision.

The club board operates on a one Director, one vote system (should it be a voting matter) - which then translates into a collective consensus.

Every Director’s opinion is canvassed, and then a summary vote is collated. But whatever the outcome of that discussion or vote - we take collective responsibility.

I want to reassure you that every decision the board makes, with my input and feedback from supporters, is made with the interests of the club and its fanbase at its heart.
